towards the end of his life, igor stravinsky took off in a new direction after several years of plying the same groove until he realized he and his compositions had become irrelevant. this piece is arguably his last masterpiece. both austere and florid, looking forward while quoting his past, requiem canticles are stirring and beautiful and a worthy piece for the end of this year.
