Purple gallinule:
A couple years ago I was walking through the Everglades, looking at my laminated bird ID pamphlet and said, “oooh, I wish I could see one of those purple gallinules!”
And the friend I was walking with looked up and said, “there’s one.” All matter of fact. And it was doing exactly what the ID notes described: walking on lily pads and eating “swamp apples.”
33 years old. Per wiki, average lifespan for Flying Fox Bats is “likely 15 years”.

The nursing hoglets seem to be avoiding poking her (probably a good instinct for nursing hoglets to evolve). She repositions the one that starts to play with her ear, but otherwise seems unperturbed. Based on my cat’s affinity for spiky scratching surfaces, their relaxed quills might feel like a light brushing.
That look says: “I know you have roast beef.”
Also being a good mother, even an adoptive, one means putting up with all the little annoyances one’s babies bring.
