Several news stories point out that the family did try to gate check the car seat but couldn’t because the computer system was down so they were instructed to take it on the plane with them.
Once on the plane, they asked for a seat belt extension at which point the flight attendant said they couldn’t use the booster seat and it would need to be stowed. The father claims they complied with this request. It was only after these events that they were kicked off the plane.
So which is it? Were they kicked off for non-compliance of crew member instruction [which they claim is not true - they did comply with the request to stow the car seat], or was the flight crew being unreasonable by claiming a “safety issue” as a pretext for simply not liking their attitude or muslim-ness.
The videos do not show either of the parents being hostile but simply questioning why they were being asked to leave - a reasonable position in my opinion. The flight crew is less than forthcoming with any basic details of their decision and just claim the “safety of flight” issue as justification. If it really was the car seat then stowing it should have resolved the issue with no further actions necessary.
Based on this I am willing to believe a certain degree of discrimination is involved here.
Profiling may or may not include race. And we use a form of it everyday, usually subconsciously, because one can’t make every single decision based on reasoning, we use our preconceived biases most of the time.
It’s indeed Charles Dance (who plays Tywin Lannister) and I think it’s from Zoolander, if I’m not mistaken (I’ve never seen it, but I think that’s it).
He looks great in a red leather skirt, eh? At least he wears it better than I would!
To be fair, I think the problem with Matt Smith’s dancing is not that he’s white. I’ve seen this quote attributed to Steven Moffat and others:
Eccleston was a tiger and Tennant was, well, Tigger. Smith is an uncoordinated housecat who pretends that he meant to do that after falling off a piece of furniture.
It’s since been extended to include Capaldi as Grumpy Cat.
HA! Either you’re driving trollies, or you’ve never flown before. I can tell you which one my money is on.
The ultimate irony to all this is that hate groups like IS want racist white jackasses to react exactly this way. The extreme climate of racism eliminates the possibly of being a modern, moderate Muslim and drives more of them into the arms of extremism.
Of course, the current American political climate supporting all kinds of racism under the auspices of law enforcement/fighting crime (against blacks) and anti-terrorism/public safety (against Muslims), is giving the ugliest of racists their day in the sun without any fear of correction or condemnation.
