I’ve thought about it, and while I am 100 against the death penalty, the way I’d want to go would be firing squad. 1) Fast 2) hard to mess up 3) UN-desensitizes and re-humanizes the fact that the state just killed someone.

I’d like to point out that while this is certainly a new flavor of crazy from Illinois, generally we’re pretty sane and have a solid track record recently.

I’m fine with capital punishment in some very limited circumstances – Timothy McVeigh, for instance – but mostly oppose it because it’s too much trouble. I’m an acquaintance of someone whose sister was strangled to death by an on-duty state trooper – guy only got life (and there I’d be fine with it too), but the occasional parole hearings are deeply unpleasant process. The appeals process for capital punishment can be unending and I’d rather just stick to life and you are never heard from again.
(That said, yes, as to the let’s be clear about what we’re doing. Hanging, a firing squad is much preferable to this “medicalization” of it).

I’m still very pissed off about this shithead’s execution. He was connected to many other white supremacists and “militia” groups. If the DOJ had gone after these terrorists in their nascency, I don’t believe the US would be in the shit it is today.
