University of Idaho sent email to staff advising against abortion talk and birth control access – or else!

Truth and facts are not allowed by the republicans or other expressions of right wing ideology.
Its just a matter of time when the “Don’t Say Gay” rules are put into practice.

Keep the proles ignorant and totally controlled is the end game. Low paid drones to keep the leaders of the Nat-C’s in the manner to which they’ve become accustomed.

The far-right has been framing public educational institutions as leftist indoctrination centers, so such actions might play into their narrative.

That is the point, the Christofascists will ask why the medical school needs to teach un-Biblical procedures and then kick us down the slippery slope.

“…We are advising a conservative approach here, that the university not provide standard birth control itself.”
It’s almost like they are trying to increase the likelihood of illegal abortions.

Yup, two of the anatomical courses I teach (mostly pre-nursing) would have gaping holes in them.

I cannot express how important Reproductive lectures are for students. It’s astonishing what people get to college without knowing. They shouldn’t have to take my 200’s level college course to learn the things I have to teach them about their own reproductive health. And now the right wing folks are trying to take even that away.

I just finished a medical program in Idaho (at Idaho State, not University of Idaho) and our lecturers danced around the topic of pregnancy termination and made suggestions about where we could go to learn more. It made me so angry but I understand that no one wanted to lose their job. Very thankful that we had comprehensive education about prescribing birth control, however. Also very thankful that the person delivering that particular lecture was extremely pro-choice and pro-women’s health.

It really, really sucks.

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Refusing to talk about problem pregnancies will not miraculously make them disappear. Treating them with all appropriate measures is a vital part of medical instruction. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Even if it didn’t, expect a marked rise in the number of stickered cars currently being vandalized.

Of course, sex education itself is a no-no for the christofascists. Abstinence isn’t 'education;.
‘If you are gonna have fun, then you are gonna pay’ is what they say their deity wants.

Seems like if these sorts of things actually bothered it, then it has plenty of lightning bolts available.
Apparently, their omnipotent, omniscient deity is a sadistic bastard that can’t do a damned thing by itself & needs these evil bastards to do its dirty work for it.

These people are control freaks, pure & simple. Anyone not rich, white, male and straight is ultimately on their ugly list.
It will be interesting to see how their plan for theocracy pans out when the Baptists, Catholics, and Mormons try to divvy up the loot.

I believe the felony is related to discussing abortion, aka, enabling abortion. The penalties in Idaho:

The unlawful abortion provider, medical professional or not, is subject to a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment for 1 to 5 years.

In addition, a health care provider for a first violation can be professionally disciplined with at least a $1,000 civil penalty. A second violation results in his or her license to practice being suspended for six months and a not less than $2,500 civil penalty. Any subsequent violation can result in the revocation of his or her license and a fine of at least $5,000.

The woman seeking the abortion can be fined up to $5,000, and incarcerated for 1 to 5 years.

I believe not discussing birth control is the university’s policy, not state law (yet).

I am just hoping that someone puts this policy to the test before Election Day.

Or, all sane faculty agree that it’s essential, announce that it can be discussed during any professors office hours, and have links to Planned Parenthood, or referrals to support services on their CV pages.

I’m reminded of the state legislator who thought tampons were sex toys and Todd Akin’s "If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down,”. Those were just the idiot extremists who outed themselves, they should absolutely make legislators pass a test on reproductive science before they’re allowed to vote on restricting it.

Yeah, but a professor is not a healthcare “provider” and certainly have no license to lose. Not that you’re wrong, it’s just fucking stupid.

“Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man … living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money.”

Wonder what sort of endowments they have? Might be good to contact the people invested in it to see if they might want to reevaluate.

Yes, right up there with pubic lice and trichomoniasis, but the uterine parasite wins in terms of size and metabolic demands on the host.

I’d be happy to write and administer that test.
