Yeah, there is that route, which later could open up other avenues (including even another academic job). I’m think of combining my dissertation work with another idea that’s been floating around the back of my brain for a grand unified theory of sorts…

I know, it was a reach, but my mind works in weird ways, and is filled with pretty useless trivia.
Thanks! It would be even nicer if I’d managed to get tenure in a city where it was possible to buy a home on an educator’s salary, but I guess we can’t have everything.
