Maduro didn’t like the questions Ramos was asking, per reports.

Not surprised, i’d rather not say what i truly think and feel about Maduro and Chavez beyond that they are creating a genocide of the Venezuelan people.

Late stage socialism.

I suspect that Maduro is a trifle twitchy at the moment; but I’m finding it difficult to think of how this move benefits him.

There’s a strategically valid(if deeply neutral evil) case for going after journalists if they have dug up something that isn’t generally known and is unhelpful; or if they’ve been so much more motivated than everyone else that there’s reason to suspect that the story might well disappear with them; but that’s not exactly his case here.

Is this posturing for the loyalists? Irrational expression of sincere irritation? Badly miscalculated attempt to lean on Ramos to obtain more cooperative behavior?

Well at least he wasn’t dismembered like other journalists with dual-US citizenship.

Holy fucksocks; I’m glad they’re still alive and in one piece.

Dumb-sterfire may be rethinking his feelings about Maduro.

Why?

Anything is fuel for the imperial “Let’s depose another [supposed] dictator whose hurting his people [and never mind how we’ve been hurting them too]” fire.

Well because.
Because the press is the enemy of the people and that.
Right?

I’m always surprised that tech savvy camera ops aren’t prepared for this sort of thing with secondary stealth recording methods. I’m familiar with numerous ways I can do this with my still camera so that if I ever have to turn over my memory card to authorities I’ll still have my content.

Of course this assumes there isn’t a really through search by people who actually know what they’re doing. Most security goons don’t fall into this category though and a little play acting while handing over the memory card can engineer them into thinking you’re being compliant when you actually aren’t.

They need to stick to soft ball questions, like dictator tRump gets from Fox Comedy Channel News…

From the same imperialist playbook:

Stole the words right out of my sandals! (Funnily, but seriously.)

Yeppurs! There’s a direct line of causation between Western (predominately US) imperialism and the dictatorships in virtually every developing nation. The ignorant American Right absolutely loves to pretend American Imperialism didn’t foment bastards like Chavez and Maduro.

I’m not even that tech savvy, and I was thinking the same. It’s Investigative Journalism 101.

I think the worst thing that might have happened to the Venezuelan opposition was Guaidó’s hamfisted declaration that his claim to the interim presidency “had the support of the USA”. He’s not even THAT young, he could have known better.

Unless it just confirms Trump’s opinion of journalists the Enemies of the State, and gives him some ideas about how to deal with them.

Hey, no love for Saddam Hussein? Though, I guess he is rather yesterday’s news.
