Michael Sheen recently did a Q&A called The Assembly on BBC and during that, one of the participants recited that poem to Michael. It was a visibly moving performance, if you get a chance to see it, it is worth it.
Considering a current family issue, I think I might get this phrase on a shirt or something to remind me.
I always remember this song when Dylan Thomas is mentioned:
I knew a man, his brain was so small
He couldn’t think of nothing at all
He’s not the same as you and me
He doesn’t dig poetry. He’s so unhip that
When you say “Dylan”, he thinks you’re talking about Dylan Thomas
Whoever he was
The man ain’t got no culture
But it’s all right, ma
Everybody must get stoned
perfection.
Well duh. Dylan Thomas was a poet; his job was writing poverful, moving words. Michael Sheen is an actor; his job is read his lines in a powerful, moving way.
I absolutely concur, there is genuine affection from them to him and from him to them.
Such a good poem, however I sometimes wonder how much damage has been wrought by strong men who refused to go gently into that good night.
