In Europe, toll bridges are generally free to motorcyclists whereas toll roads are not.
Back in the '90s I had a girlfriend who, every time we would scooch up the side of a toll bridge would burst in to song singing Breaking the Law by Judas Priest.
It was years later that it dawned on me that she didn’t know about the free toll bridge thing. Thinking about that makes me feel pretty heroic!

I’m surprised he’s so amused - he must not be one of the people who’s going to have to do a bunch of work to repair the road, now.

He probably is part of the crew that will have to fix the road, and he’ll get extra days of paid work to do it. Somebody else screws up and he brings home more money; I’d be laughing too.
