Somehow an update where dissidents memorize episodes of “Cheers” to preserve them in an post-TV era doesn’t seem as uplifting.
Today’s problem.
There’s a brief shot of people wearing VR goggles, which probably replaces the TV wall display soap operas to which Montag’s wife is addicted. I also hear Beatty mentioning the “Internet of old” alongside books as something to be destroyed, probably indicating that the free net-neutral Internet has been replaced with some Zuckerberg-Pai walled garden monstrosity. Those small details tell me that at least one of the book’s main themes is being honoured in a way that brings things up to date.
Good acting can convey some of the characters’ inner lives, so I’m willing to give it a chance.
That’s been done! Now I just have to dig through the memory banks for who and where.
