Settle down. Are you really defending people who beat up on innocent people and rape kids?
I don’t believe these kinds of people deserve any kind of luxury at all. Yes it is their own fault, they had a choice to do something or not do it, and they chose to do it. To clarify, I think some people may have been put into situations where they were forced to act, for example - someone that murdered someone else because they were being threatened or harassed, or afraid for their safety.
Get a fucking grip and stop empathizing with people who had no empathy when someone was begging them to not kill or rape them at their hands.
It’s not a question of empathy, it’s whether you’re capable of seeing a bigger picture.
You think you’d have nearly so many hopeless, maladjusted dregs floating around in a country that isn’t at war with the poor? A country that doesn’t do everything it can to corrode communities, foster ignorance, promote belligerence, withhold medical and psychological care, and then take the unfortunate output of all that mistreatment and neglect, and pump it into the misery factories you call a penal system?
This shit is bigger than mere individuals. It’s systemic, and your sort of self-righteous individualism is a fucking cornerstone of that malignant edifice, epitomised by talkback radio douchebags and private prison industry lobbyists.
I’m not the one who needs to get a grip; I know the correct direction to punch is up, not down.
I don’t live in the states so I don’t know all the inner workings of the “system” you’re referring to. But what you’re saying is way beyond the scope of whether criminals should be able to pay their way to a better living condition. It also sounds like you’re just looking for a way to pass the blame off to an external factor rather than having criminals place the blame on themselves and taking some responsibility for what they’ve done.
Plenty of people grow up around crime and turn out to be fine, well adjusted people who contribute to society. Environment may play a role into it, but I believe that people just make terrible decisions and they should suffer for them.
I am not saying the idea of “luxury” or slightly better amenities should be completely trashed. Some people who may have committed petty crimes or out of desperation should be given some level of trust. Others who don’t feel remorse for anything they’ve done should burn in hell for eternity.
You can blame it on their environment or upbringing or society, it doesn’t matter to me. They made a decision to fuck someone up, and someones family and friends up permanently, and they should suffer for it. They are lucky they don’t live in 3rd world countries where they actually use common sense and have severe punishments for a lot less. Keeps crime low and keeps people from being cunts.
