What's it like to be a black anime fan?

Art is often transformed by the viewer as far as what is means or how it is enjoyed.

It doesn’t really matter in most anime what race the characters are. If the Japanese see themselves in the characters, great. If the white Americans and Europeans see themselves in the characters, great.

But it isn’t hard to fault anyone who only casually watches anime to even know there should be an issue. On Attack on Titan, one of the characters is described as the last Asian - but she doesn’t look much different than anyone else, and the other presumably non-Asian characters would look right at home in just about any Anime show. But of course the live action movie is all Japanese actors.

Well, if I ever saw it, I’d say something. But I am don’t hang out in those circles.
