That’s always been a favorite of mine. Anais Mitchell did a great reworking of it in her folk opera Hadestown a few years back. The album has actually been pretty popular with my kids.
One of the best lectures I ever had in college was in a Myth and Ritual class. The professor was pretty inconsistent overall, but the day he talked about Gilgamesh and Enkidu, his passion filled the room. He talked about the depth of their friendship, and read from a letter a former student had sent him from Vietnam.
I mean, c’mon. It’s named after him.
