Why designers love the ampersand

Would a monothorpe, or more simply thorpe, be theoretically possible but not found in the wild, like magnetic monopoles? Or could something like qualify?

I’m one of those arseholes who always substitutes a + for the ampersand.

Myself, I use the crossed epsilon.
