Why do most spaceships in sci-fi have their guns on backwards?

They did mention the pilots’ ability to withstand the G forces though. I remember a pilot briefing where they were warning that the Centauri could pull more Gs without blacking out, so they’d be able to make tighter maneuvers.

Yep, I recall that as well. G-forces for a Starfury pilot come from inertia when spinning on axis, and then thrust. Pilots most often feel like they are lying on their back, then whipped around when maneuvering, jinking to avoid incoming fire, and so on.

Not sure why the thumbnail for the video talking about fixed guns has a picture of a ship from The Expanse, where most of the guns are on gimbles:

(That’s an unusually close range battle for the series because they sneaked up close)
