I’d go further and say that all advertising is a form of information pollution, and should be taxed and regulated accordingly.

Downstream effects of that is that some internet services would no longer be free.
I’m not suggesting this is a bad thing. But, having a very capable personal mail like Gmail is essential in today’s economy. A static email address is an identity, not unlike a phone number.
Should your online identity be free? Or cost you money? Either way, who should be in charge of that identity?
