They may be out of warranty. Is the software older than eight years? Even six years strains the OS and they may start refusing commands. However, some systems may reset around the twenty year mark, depending.

Yes, it makes so much sense to dismiss this because you didn’t like the letter case I used. That is a much better idea than simply looking it up for yourself. I think your tin foil hat may be on a little tight.

She’s running this weird hybrid OS that’s forked from two different systems with incompatible instruction sets, and didn’t come with any documentation whatsoever.

Does the following:
Basicly disable the data collections tasks and services and add the known dns hosts that collect telemetry data to the hosts file, aka redirect them to 0.0.0.0 so they cannot be resolved.
Also remove the Folders from “mypc” view (I don’t like it personally), enable file extensions and hidden folders.
Remove the zip/cab view from the explorer (I have 7-zip anyway)
Remove OneDrive
Edit: Again:
dnsapi.dll in Win10 has many MS domains white listed and it’s checked before the host file is queried in requests. Curious.

Anyone who’s into video games could tell you about how Microsoft nearly tanked its Xbox One over the Big Brother features it wanted to shove down its customers’ throats.
But with Windows 10, I don’t think they’re completely over it yet. Not when spying on computers is the default position these days.
