The Hollywood strike has hit Czechia. Thousands of people have reportedly lost their jobs

The strike of American filmmakers affects Czech filmmakers as well. In fact, filming of big series for streaming platforms like Foundation or Interview with the Vampire is being stopped in the country. Actors from the SAG-AFTRA union are playing in them. Without them there is no point in filming. According to CT24’s findings, thousands of local film professionals and other workers are working on these US projects and are now having to find other jobs. However, there are still European and Czech titles that are not affected by the strike.

For the past month, former Real Housewives of New York cast member Bethenny Frankel has been calling for reality stars to unionize and join actors in the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes — because hey, there’s some seriously unethical behavior happening in that industry, and they’re not getting residuals, either.

On Thursday, SAG-AFTRA responded to a letter written by attorneys representing Frankel and several reality show performers who chose to remain anonymous about the compensation and exploitation issues on these shows with a statement saying that they are on her side and ready to work with reality show performers who do want to unionize.

Without intending to take residence under any bridges (not even that one): how does this residual rate (something like $1 per million audience-minutes) compare to the typical writers’ residual rate for old-fashioned broadcast TV? I’ve never seen this comparison laid out in any of the coverage of streaming media payments, despite some poking around. I’m sure it’s bad; how bad exactly?

Until companies are fined more than a mere pittance for abusing workers, they’ll simply go on abusing workers.

$1,143… :rage:

Throw in some criminal prosecution while we’re at it.

Taking a kids hand should be worth ten years for the ceo. That’ll shut this shit down.

If the penalty is a fine that means it’s OK for rich people to do it.
