“Sasse’s words sometimes tumble out in a kind of techno-futurist patois that can be hard to follow. In response to a question about his perceived invisibility on campus, he veered off into something about the future of pedagogy. “And that requires us to unbundle cohorting, community and synchronicity from co-localities,” he said. Later, he added, “What will today’s generic term ‘professor’ mean when you disaggregate syllabus designer, sage-on-the-stage lecturer, seminar leader, instructional technologist, grader, assessor, etc.?””

What workers have to deal with after getting dumped by their employers:

# US unemployment rate spikes to 3.8%; labor market still has momentum

“The increase among women 55 years and older is promising if it continues, as it could signal the end of the early retirement trend,” said Stephen Juneau, a U.S economist at Bank of America Securities in New York. “The increase among men 16-19 is mixed news because these workers probably are not in college and are now less likely to go.”

A complaint from a regional office of the National Labor Relations Board alleges that a noncompete agreement in an employment contract is an unfair labor practice, meaning such contract provisions would be unlawful and unenforceable in court. The complaint, the first to make this allegation, builds on a theory posited by the NLRB’s general counsel earlier this year, and if it holds, would represent a major change in American labor law.

The dancers claimed The Furnace, at 309 28th St. North, violated provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, including not paying them minimum wage or overtime. The suit also contended the strip club illegally took the dancers’ tips and engaged in an illegal kickback scheme by requiring the dancers to fork over house fees.
