To echo what @danimagoo and @anon61221983 and others have already said, this is a fundamentally flawed conclusion that you’re drawing here.
I, a cis-het woman, worked in construction before my current career. There are plenty of reasons why women are under-represented in the construction trades, but the top 2 are misogyny and lack of access. Top 2 by far.
Yes, men are generally physically stronger, but women make better finish carpenters (ask any crew lead or general contractor who is honest), and do just as well operating the heavy machinery, if not better.
Your stance ignores that women are driven out of all sorts of fields, lucrative ones like programming and gaming, not because they’re somehow less capable, but because men make it SO TOXIC for women to participate, and no one stops them.
It’s really damaging to society. We’d all be better off if half the population weren’t sidelined, so we could all enjoy the bounty that everyone has to offer.
Toxic masculinity hurts us all. And anti-trans sentiment does, too.
World chess organization bans transgender players from women's events because of "unfair advantages"
Deep-seated. Is that a pun?
I think that you mean “double entendre” or “innuendo,” but that still makes no sense whatsoever. Puns, double entendres and innuendos all have to make some kind of sense, so the answer is “No” in any case.
So rather than address the toxic behaviors, they put women in their own silo? That’s some 4-D chess right there.
I thought maybe the possible pun they were referring to the fact chess players sit for a long time?
Though thomdunn actually used “deep-seeded” which might have been a mistake…
Oh, now that would be something of a pun. I guess we can blame autocorrect, then.
The brain is flexible and can adapt to circumstances. For instance, London taxi drivers have enlarged hippocampi as a result of doing The Knowledge. Therefore I find it plausible that minor differences between male and female brains could result from different social experiences.
But again, what does that have to do with chess?
Clearly it is unfair for London taxi drivers to play chess against non-taxi drivers or taxi drivers from outside London with their lesser hippocampi.
At least not every chess organisation is so bigoted:
The English Chess Federation’s (ECF) position is clear. We do not exclude trans women and this position will not change, despite FIDE’s new policy. Trans women have worked on behalf of the ECF and played in ECF events, as have trans women in various other chess federations. The ECF notes that similar positions have been adopted by the German Chess Federation (DSB), the French Chess Federation (FFE) and the United States Chess Federation (USCF).
The new FIDE rules are incompatible with English law, particularly with regard to the release of personal data. We cannot see the point of the two-year suspension of the right to participate in women-only competitions, which we view as discriminatory.
The ECF restates its commitment to being an inclusive organisation that is welcoming to all.
Queen’s Knight to E3 via Marylebone, Shepherd’s Bush, and Chiswick: Check.
Everyone, London taxi driver or not, should have the same right to spend their summers in a tent with large aquatic mammals.
Hippo camp for all!
Trans women are women. And chess is full of misogyny.
E3?! At this time of night? No chance mate. Anyway, my light was off.
CalvinChess? I’m up for it!
Well, good mornington to you!
Well let’s see, we’re apparently better at many sports, chess, Jeopardy, and probably many other things I’m forgetting. We cause floods, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Despite a complete lack of social and political power, our mere presence seems to somehow threaten our civilization to its very core! Honestly, they shouldn’t be banning us from things, they should be worshiping us like the divine being we are!
Do I have to actually include the /s tag or is that just assumed?
(We → Ok, I’m enby, but feminine presenting, and let’s be honest – the bigots really don’t care about the differences anyway.)
I’m aware of this phenomenon and I’d be curious as to how that shows up in nonbinary (genderfluid, genderqueer, or otherwise ‘other’ gendered) people like myself. Do we have a pattern somewhere in between? Different data grouping within the overall patterns? Something else entirely?
First off, if that has been specifically studied, I missed it. Secondly, everything is a spectrum, and when you have both overlapping bell curves on the MRI findings, and overlapping bell curves on the identity part, sorting these out would require a pretty large sample size. I cite these studies frequently in support of trans women are women, because to my mind, your brain makes you who you are. Would nonbinary folks inhabit the overlap area? That would be my guess, but there is no data to the best of my knowledge to back that up. Clouds and boxes again. Trying to pigeon-hole people into predetermined categories is always an exercise in futility.
Yes.
Unless you meant something else and want to expand upon your comment.
