That’s a fair point, except that now you want to doing something pointless, AND have it make sense by changing a basic component of infrastructure.

Changing the mains distribution to HVDC would probably be a good idea. Doing it so we can put a shitton of photovoltaics in PNG isn’t.

Was responding to the distance issue for new installations. I.e. new infrastructure, (with conversion to AC at the far end grid-tie of course.) :slight_smile:

Sure, and Australia is pretty backwards, but I’m reasonably certain that even they already have a national power grid.

OTOH, installing an all new parallel DC transmission grid would solve the conversion problem … at the cost of making the project wildly uneconomic.

TLDR: yes, PNG and AS are neighbours, but not in the way that MX and US are. That difference matters in this context.
