Would you be willing to neuro-hack your way to enlightenment?

I’m going to say that this question lacks foundation. I know that there is something people call enlightenment, but I’ve not seen evidence that is anything other than a feeling rather than an actual state of knowing facts better.

Isn’t it literally a experiential state of mind? Not sure there’s any such thing as “knowing facts better?” Maybe reacting better to stimulus/conditions or analyzing facts better though? :woman_shrugging:

Rinzai Zen uses koans as part of its meditation practice and the teachers have some means of testing whether a student has “passed” a koan, i.e. more or less come up with the correct answer. I guess it could be an empirical matter for a Rinzai Zen teacher to ask someone who has neuro-hacked themselves what the sound of one hand clapping is or what mu is and if they are able to give a “correct” answer then it might constitute a “real” enlightenment experience.
