Wow - pilot shows us the comfy pilot beds and avionics room that passengers don't get to see

Yeah, it looks like only skinny pilots got to take naps.

I’m getting claustrophobic just looking at those spaces.

I sometimes have dreams of finding previously unknown, magical rooms in my house

Me too. There is usually an elaborate, torso-twisting way to enter those rooms. Those are the best dreams!

As it turns out (I just asked The Google), such dreams are not uncommon.

Reminds me of a scene in Belinda Blinked:

From the Belinda Blinked wiki:

“…Hazel is later seen on the Texas flight departing Heathrow in S2E13. Prior to the flight she manages to upgrade Belinda and Bella from economy comfort class to VIP. During her break she reaches Belinda and Bella midflight and escorts them to the spiral staircase leading the the five bedrooms for the airport crew to use. She goes for B3 (which Belinda dubs as “bonking capacity for 3 people”) and took a long period of time to undress each other. Bella observed Hazel’s breasts and reviewed them but added she would need Giselle to qualify her assessment. The three girls then started performing oral sex on each other. Hazel described their sex session nothing quite like it being 40,000ft up in the air.”

To help with our school assignments, our class was allowed to inspect **unescorted the innards of a 747. (That was “back in the day”.) We wormed our way through that thing, noting this and that, taking aisle/seat measurements, etc., heads occasionally popping up through opened floor hatches accessed by ladders down below. The only area denied to us was the cockpit.

**Many complimentary first-class sock-slippers and such freebies felt the Sun’s warmth outside the airport that day, I tell you.

I find it comforting that pilots have proper sleeping facilities on flights. I want the people holding my life in their hands to be as healthy and well-rested as possible.

The crew rest area on this aircraft has a little more space than the pilot one: Discover the secret Airbus A350 crew rest area at the rear of the aircraft - YouTube

The 747 one has a spiral staircase: Secret Crew Rest Area QANTAS Boeing 747 - YouTube

But the A380 one is ginormous: Lufthansa A380, Lower Deck Crew Rest - YouTube

Funny - not sure if you meant literal night-time dreams @frauenfelder, but if so, weird coincidence… that’s pretty much the only kind of dream I’ve had* for the last few years. I rarely dream,* but when I do, it’s invariably that my home possesses vast new fancy-shmancy chambers that I was previously unaware of/had forgotten. I wake up to mild disappointment, but that’s fine!

(Even had this dream coming out of anaesthesia a while back)

* Acknowledging that science tells us everyone dreams every night - by “dream” I simply mean “dreams that I remember, even fleetingly”.

That reminded me of an old joke about the C130, “They made it quite by putting all the noise on the inside.”
