This almost reminds me of second term calculus, taught by a grad student working on the Maple symbolic algebra package (v3.3 at the time). He gave us all Unix accounts and Maple access and we all thought “woo hoo”, right? Then he set all the assignments using problems that Maple couldn’t solve at the time.
I’m guessing he was crowd-sourcing to see if there were any new approaches…
