You can call me AI

Overall it would be optimal if works were never non-consensually incorporated into training sets in the first place, but this tool created by Herndon and Dryhurst is a good one.

Iā€™m a big fan of Holly Herndon and she has been using ā€œAIā€ in her work for a long time at this stage.

I do mostly agree with the criticisms at the end of the article unfortunately.

You donā€™t need AI for that.

The following three crime areas are amongst the many areas of concern identified by Europolā€™s experts:

  • Fraud and social engineering: ChatGPTā€™s ability to draft highly realistic text makes it a useful tool for phishing purposes. ā€¦
  • Disinformation: ChatGPT excels at producing authentic sounding text at speed and scale. ā€¦
  • Cybercrime:ā€¦ For a potential criminal with little technical knowledge, this is an invaluable resource to produce malicious code.

The recommendations are along the lines of ā€œeducateā€, ā€œinvestā€ and still more or less leave the average citizen on their own IMHO. Calls for a Butlerian Jihad are notably absent.

Sure, no chance of bias there.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/29/tech/ai-letter-elon-musk-tech-leaders/index.html

The letter, which was also signed by the CEO of OpenAI, said the pause should apply to AI systems ā€œmore powerful than GPT-4.ā€ It also said independent experts should use the proposed pause to jointly develop and implement a set of shared protocols for AI tools that are safe ā€œbeyond a reasonable doubt.ā€

ā€œAdvanced AI could represent a profound change in the history of life on Earth, and should be planned for and managed with commensurate care and resources,ā€ the letter said. ā€œUnfortunately, this level of planning and management is not happening, even though recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one ā€“ not even their creators ā€“ can understand, predict, or reliably control.ā€

If a pause is not put in place soon, the letter said governments should step in and create a moratorium.

6 months? :man_shrugging:

Very cool results, but I think theyā€™re getting high on their supply.

They say:

ā€œIn theory, there are no vulnerabilities or security issues it cannot detect, provided the appropriate data is presented to the AI.ā€

I hear:

We solved the halting problem.

Donā€™t think so.
