Okay so maybe not via consumption of flesh. Maybe.
Also sounds like the most vulnerable people would be those who “clean” killed deer.

From a paper cited elsewhere in the thread that I cannot link presumably because I am a new user.
“Fixed by desiccation or chemicals may retain infectivity for years.”
Did you make the Mickey Rooney Potato Thing init?
The fried bits, yes.
I think the prion form of the protein is the denatured form. It’s metastable. It’s been a long time since I’ve read that original paper though, so I might be misremembering.
I think you’re essentially correct, however there are lots (~infinite) of denatured forms (one could even consider the fully oxidized remnants as ‘denatured’). Also, many proteins have normal/essential multiple (tertiary) structural states. What characterizes prions is the ability to catalyze other proteins into that disfunctional structural state. I’ll still retain my skepticism (the existence of a paper or two to the contrary) that a prion protein will remain ‘infective’ after laying about under the (dry) sun for “years” [shrug]
your quotes seem well deserved. infectious feels like the wrong word for prions since they don’t really take any action on their own. not quite sure what’s better. dangerous maybe?
In the late 1970s, New York Mayor Edward I. Koch launched an unprecedented campaign against subway graffiti. The city employed new guardians to patrol its vast train yards—wolves. Captured from upstate New York and set loose in various borough depots, the wolves successfully kept taggers at bay until anti-graffiti technology eliminated the need for the animals
“Basically what I am doing is I am creeping into these people’s minds. They are gonna go home to wherever they are from, they google it: ‘Ed Koch releases wolves,’” Reginella told us this past weekend as he gleefully watched passersby take in the sculpture
i love every part of this

Like this?
this is somewhat getting ot, but *koch actually floated the idea in the early 80s (or so he said), and talks about “his” wolve “solution” at about 1:00:00 near the end of this (truly) legendary docu.
(*edit)
It’s not just deer brains that could make Jim Bob start a zombie apocalypse
remember this one?
ah, the 80s…
“Black Moon over Manhattan!”
Okay, that’s going on my “Quote of the Day” note here in the IT office.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure I’ve read this story somewhere. Not sure I want to go there!
SKWIRLS!
My mom just got me one. I think to encourage me to do something similar to cooking more…
