Huh. I have to say, unless there is a picture on the cover, I’m not sure for most Science Fiction books I would know if the protagonist is white or latino or asian or what have you. This is especially true of a lot of science fiction removed from Earth or in the far future where most everyone is a mutt.
Sometimes the SF book I’m reading mentions skin tone which might narrow down the possibilities a bit, but rarely to the point that I can definitively say what they are. I suppose some do mention ethnicity, but I would expect that to be the exception rather than the rule.
It could be though that I don’t pay very close attention.
