Nose gear malfunction prompts "stool" landing on aircraft carrier

Man, Harriers are just the coolest planes, always been one of my favorites.

So, what would have happened if a non VTOL plane on a carrier had their nose gear fail? You totally couldn’t land using a tailhook, the nose and cockpit would slam into the deck at a hundred miles an hour. Seems that the nose gear is a particularly critical component.

They have a safety net, don’t they?

Is this the first time such a stool’s been used?

Mechanic: What the hell happened to this engine? It looks like it swallowed a whole flock of geese.

Other mechanic: Actually, Chief, it swallowed a whole pile of Posturepedics.

That must have been an awesome incident report :stuck_out_tongue:

Please note: I’m taking it as a given that the pilot was not injured.

Plus, you can’t just go buy yourself a new Harrier, no matter how many military-industrial dollars you’ve got in your complex.
