Let’s get the obvious missing-the-point out of the way.

[whining] BUT THAT’S NOT A TANK!!

Ah, but if it were, a canny PR department might convince precincts to include some more “constituent-friendly” sound bites to deploy when engaging with the public:

“Are you still there?”

“Preparing to dispense product.”

“Coming through! Excuse me. Sorry… my fault.”

“There you are.”

“No hard feelings.”

This is a tank!

/shrimp, barbie etc.

Makes as much sense as mounted video cameras on drones.

Yeah, Cory, this is totally the appropriate time and context to attack Obama.

Black people are out there protesting our continual murder by the police. The Obama administration and Holder are launching civil rights investigations of those murders and the failure of local police to hold the officers involved responsible. And yes, providing a few hundred million dollars to put cameras on police officers so that it’s at least documented.

And what are you doing? You and your fellow white libertarian dudes are derailing the conversation about these racist murders with crap about cigarette taxes, weed legalization, and police militarization, As if any of that had anything to do with any of this. Oh, and shitting all over literally the only people in power in this country doing anything at all to address these murders.

Wait right there sir, is mocking the blandness of the government reaction to the continuous stream of police officers killing black people inappropriate?

Why? Because Obama is black? He may be black, but he policies as the whitest dude in the white house.

Libertarians? Sir, we mock libertarians here, and I think that police militarization is directly related to these abusive (homicidal) attitudes. But for one I concur that talking about cigarette taxes and weed is derailing the debate and missing the point.

On tumblr this week I’ve seen repeated videos of cops abusing and killing African Americans, and in every case the officers involved have gotten away with it scot free. These cameras will probably tend towards unreliability at critical moments, and when they don’t their evidence will be explained away, suppressed, lost, ruled inadmissable or just plain ignored.

Obama is launching investigations? Well, hoo-bloody-rah. We’ll comment on those when the inevitably bland and toothless conclusions are reached. If Obama wasn’t such a conservative, he would have sent every black national guardsman he could find down to Ferguson, declared martial law, and disbanded and disarmed the police department. Also sacked the person responsible for that farce of a Grand Jury, and the governor of the state.

Also, smile when you call this card-carrying pinko socialist a “libertarian”.

Did everybody notice this is from The Onion?

Judging by the comments above, I’d say “No”.

While the piece is from The Onion, i would call it a sick burn from whomever wrote this. It’s pretty brilliantly worded toward Obama and the government’s perchant for equipping the police with military grade equipment. If you need to roll out on the streets in the US with military weapons and vehicles i think that says a lot about how politicians and the wealthy view the common american. We arent to be trusted, and we are to be kept down.

At its best, The Onion is funny cause it’s true. It’s truer than the reality it satirises.

But, hey, did you notice the Javascript?
[to those unanointed, try reading some of the xkcd forum’s thread on 1190]

The parents of Abdulrahman al-Awlaki would like you to go sit on a tack.

Seriously, how dare you? Barack Obama is the president of the United States. The federal government answers to him. There are thousands of things he could do to alleviate the horrible pressures and incentives of the incarceration state (including pardon thousands of nonviolent drug offenders), but does not. And you think it’s too much to criticize him at a third-rate media outlet like Boing Boing?

The moderators have a strict, “don’t-tell-someone-to-fuck-off” policy here, but I’d like you to do me a favor – go shit in the ocean. It would be far more productive than spewing your ridiculous and offensive opinions.

[/quote]The fact that Obama leads a country with a bunch of crappy policies, and hasn’t single-handedly and magically transformed America does not make it suddenly OK for White people to be clueless, ignorant, insensitive, racists.

And yes, using Black deaths and mass Black protests over those deaths to push white libertarian policies like police demilitarization and cigarette tax abolishment is clueless, ignorant, insensitive, racist BS. So is shitting on Obama while doing it. Especially when, as I said before, that he and Holder are the only people in power in this country who are doing anything at all about this problem.

Anyways, keep demonstrating my point by bringing up drones here.

Forgive my ignorance, but taking military hardware away from untrained police agencies that target minorities and ending the sin taxes that disproportionately effect the poor won’t help black citizens?

Again, Obama is in charge of the incarceration state. Even if he can’t “magically transform” America, he can certainly pardon nonviolent drug offenders. Why hasn’t he? He can change the classifications of certain drugs like marijuana from Schedule I to something lower. Why hasn’t he?

The only BS that I can smell is the implication that criticizing the president over this issue is racist.

Sorry for bringing up the young, brown 16-year-old from Michigan that the president had killed. Bad taste, I know.
