Playing in the world's largest Magic: The Gathering tournament

I was into MtG back in the late 90’s during highschool. That was until I realized the key to success was less skill and more spending money on specific cards to build a kick ass deck…(not saying skill wasn’t important, but having great cards trumps skill.)

Yeah I could see that when I was playing Pokemon cards for a bit when the kid was into it. On the other hand the big state championship was free, nearby and lots of parents with decks who sucked just as much as me so we all ended up playing at the ‘losers tables’ and having a fun time anyway.

I’d recommend trying the Sealed or Draft formats. In those the playing field is levelled since everyone constructs decks from booster packs that they open on-site.
