Squirrel blamed by Canadian drivers following too closely

My parents had a driving school, and one of the rules that was drilled into me is that in a rear-end collision, the person on the back is at fault for either not paying attention or not leaving enough distance.

You never know if or when the person in front of you might feel the need to slam on the brakes. A dog, a child, a meteor, a heart attack, anything could cause them to brake. I was once driving a truck on a backroad at 80kph when the brakes suddenly siezed on me (and drama ensued).

That doesnā€™t mean you donā€™t have to be aware of the tailgating arsehole behind you when you make decisions. But the RCMP should have just said ā€˜donā€™t tailgate because itā€™s stupid and kills peopleā€™.

Braking hard for a small animal is against the rules now as well, IIRC.
