The evolution of the word 'dude'

[Read the post]

Now his hat is on backwards
He can show you his tattoos
He is in the music business
He is calling you “DUDE!”

Theodore roosevelt was called a “dude” when he first arrived at the NY state senate. He had a gold tipped cane and pince-nez.

This is an affront to literate people everywhere. Clearly, the original meaning of the word is its real meaning. Everything else is ignorance and corruption. The same goes for spellynge.

Ah. Madonna…Dude…

the baseketball dude scene…awesome!

they skipped over the 70s glam usage that indicated gay/bi, as in the famous Bowie/Mott the Hoople song:

Now Lucy looking sweet 'cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule, its a real mean team
But we can love, oh yes we can love
And my brothers back at home with his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that Revolution stuff
What a drag, too many snags
Now I drunk a lot of wine and Im feeling fine
Gotta race some cat to bed
Oh is there concrete all around or is it in my head?
Yeah, Im a dude, dad!

there was a pretty good write up about the usage here a while back
