Thx for posting this in @doctorow’s Woody Guthrie thread @funruly … reposted here for the leading GOP candidate!
Woody Guthrie, All You Fascists Bound to Lose
@hello_friends Have you heard of the Mermaid Avenue project, where Billy Bragg and W I L C O teamed up to cover Woody Guthrie songs, including a version of All You Fascists that even punkers can love?
Thanks to you, yes! After you posted the Woody Guthrie song, I checked and also found Billy Bragg performing after Occupy and urging everyone to countermarch against the fascists in Germany. I almost posted that one since his style of covering the song feels more familiar to me. But I was too happy to hear Woody Guthrie singing the popular front song and remember that he challenged fascist racism in the 1940s. Thank you!
Siouxsie Sioux and Robert Smith, Dear Prudence
I’m choking on the auto-tune, and feeling like an asshole for bringing it up.
So much better than the 80s version.
And covers can go other ways …
Royal Caribbean, Lust for Life (Iggy Pop cover)
2016 Bernie Sanders Campaign for POTUS, America
Erasure, Take a Chance on Me
OUTER. SPACE.
Inside Llewyn Davis, Please Mr. Kennedy (with Justin Timberlake and Kylo Ren … I mean, Adam Driver)
This thread is giving me the impression that the Beatles are at their best when sung by a woman.
Heather Nova, Norwegian Wood
Christ. This takes me back.
To when I started hanging out with beer snob linux nerds in college.
Those were wonderful times.
