Hmm… my guess is that this was because hard drives were not cheap back then.
But whatever the reason, it kinda sucked. I had an after school job in a small printing shop and did DTP work using PageMaker on the original Mac. In other words, on a 9 inch b/w CRT. No HDD meant spending more time on swapping the software disk and the data disk than on the actual work.
Still, a huge improvement over the CP/M & WordStar & daisywheel printer setup; or having to send a floppy disk to a phototypesetting service.
OK, that video was totally awesome. And then he said, “this is a PCB, you’ve probably seen one”. And then all the rest of it was totally awesome.
