You’ve already been handcuffed - by Apple’s insistence on using proprietary ports and connectors.
And now there’s noise about Apple ditching the 3.5mm connector for headphones and instead selling just lightning-enabled (or lightning-crippled?) headphones. So good bye affordable replacements, good bye easily buying the nearest generic when in need, good bye using another lighting peripheral with headphones on.
Because the connector is “too thick” for today’s mania of thinner and thinner phones (which then need external cases to not crack when falling or when being looked at funny).
How… Apple.
