I am fully aware of revealing my naÏveté, but the thought of anyone having a loaded, unsecured firearm where a young child can find it and fire it leaves me in despair. It’s not like this is the first incident of this type. Or the fifteenth. Or the one hundredth. Maybe the one you need to be “able to defend your family from” is yourself!
