well, it took going through london for punk to take off in the states. many outlets at the time called it a british thing, especially because of the pistols, and didn’t realize there was a stateside origin until later.

Me too. That makes me tense and nervous, like I can’t relax.
I have seen far more alarmist reporting on the same subject from the same period. In fact two things came to mind during this story
1 lack of overt alarmist reporting
2 How smarmy that record exec was. It is like Paul Shaffer based his smarmmy SNL Polydor record producer schtick on this guy
