Problem is, it takes more than the Dems control now to write new rules. In the meantime, the GOP delights in not only exploiting every loophole in the rule book, but also beating them over the head with it every chance they get. We need an overwhelming Democratic majority in Congress to stop what’s happening now from ever happening again. If voters make that happen in November, the first two years of a Biden administration could be spent on those reforms.

Saw video posted from late last week by a friend who’s been a regular in the Portland protests. Protesters who were complying with police instructions to go in a certain direction were pushed down stairs from behind, and some were just beaten for no apparent reason. All on video.

It wasn’t clear from the local reporting what was going on with that truck. Initial reports didn’t say anything about the truck driver targeting protesters, but now they are including “unconfirmed reports” of that.
The fact that Ngo is citing it as a “protesters gone wild” moment pretty much confirms that the driver did something to justify that response.

The local coverage still leads with the headline of protesters beating the driver…even though, at the very least, he was driving drunk. At worst he was targeting protesters. But he was hospitalized and released. Based on the bartender’s testimony, he was way beyond the legal limit for BAC. How was he released from the hospital, where they surely ran a basic blood panel to document that he crashed his truck while drunk?

One of the shittier things cops have been doing all summer has been raiding and destroying protester’s water supplies. In 100+F temps, that’s not just asshole behavior, it can be deadly.
