i think they’re living by that old axiom: pretend to star in the mad max movie you want the world to be

and im only half joking. i really think apocalypse envy is a thing for the far right. “a dangerous man in a dangerous world, fighting for the last bag of cheetos”

[edit]

where is your poll button for “all of the above”?

Apparently people have a constitutional right to ride around Portland in the backs of pickup trucks, standing up, with guns and edgy political flags, looking for drama

Who knew?

Hey look, Don Jr. apparently believes that Biden could have ended the protests weeks ago but chose not to. So Biden logically owns anything bad that happens.

As opposed to his Trump Sr., who wanted to end the protests but… couldn’t, because, uh, Biden wouldn’t let him?

Bottom line: re-elect Trump, the only person who can end the protests!!

I wonder if Trump’s visit is really an excuse to make it “safe” for him to be there, as his church visit earlier this year. His presence will automatically inject the secret service into the area, and probably the DHS too.

We have a President who has been screaming “I’M THE FASCIST DICTATOR EVERYONE’S BEEN WARNING YOU ABOUT FOR THREE GENERATIONS” through a goddamn bullhorn since he got here and people are still flipping out about being asked to wear facemasks at the Walmart.

They just share his methods. They are responding to what they don’t like as bullies, which is “strength” to those sorts of people. It’s especially shitty, given the current “unrest” is actually a warranted show of strength and defiance.

There’s no other way to see it I think than an open embrace of “might makes right.” I am really afraid for the nation when he and his drones double down, which they will before November.

Basically, the Obama->Trump voters weren’t disloyal Democrats, they were Republicans who were temporarily lured into a Dem vote by Shrub’s catastrophic incompetence and Obama’s false promise of hope. They’re not likely to fall for it again.

I hope that is true. Sadly, I have never seen so much enthusiasm for Trump than I have in the last couple of weeks at work, the last week in particular. I know of two non-voters from 2016 that are now voting for him. The mood is so different than 2016. Then, people were hesitant to say they were voting for him, now it is loud and proud.

The riots have really motivated fearful people. Another person I overheard was saying if Biden won, he’d shut the country down again, which led to the “plandemic” speech. I am in one of the very few Blue counties in my state. I hope my workplace is an oddity.

But Obama was better than Trump. It certainly seems counter intuitive that a person on the center right would go for the black guy who was more liberal than Biden over the white guy who who is closer to their views.

And I don’t think the polling since when that was published supports that Biden is less likely than Obama to get some of these voters.

You leave nothing on the table - much like the 50 state strategy. Yes - this is more a base election- but you also make Trump expend resources where he thought he was safe.

Also - Mencken quote applies about not fooling Americans.

I hope you haven’t had breakfast yet. This is the Kenosha Sheriff from 2018. Is he talking about scary scary murderers? No, he’s talking about people shoplifting from a Tommy Hilfinger store.

Among the choice bits, he says “garbage people” should be disappeared into warehouses so they can’t get women pregnant and have more small children. The concept that a public figure could say these things and stay in office tells you all you need to know about the political situation in Kenosha WI, I think.

It’d be interesting to learn how much of the “didn’t vote” group was due to nothing more than sexism. That kept a lot of folks home who didn’t support 45, but weren’t going to vote for a woman. The current ticket should engage those voters.

There were a certain percentage of those who figured Clinton would win in a walk and so couldn’t be bothered to vote. These worry me more. We need to avoid assuming victory no matter what the polls say.

And also not forget about ballot access (i.e., the lack thereof). It was great to hear that NBA players secured a promise that arenas will become voting places.

They should also do meet and greets there that day-- vote AND meet a superstar! Bring your kids!

(Oh wait, I suppose that last idea isn’t a good one.)

Long queues to vote are not a sign of a functional democracy. They have no place in a wealthy country like the US.

And no, in case someone says it again, your ballots are not super special complicated, nor are your cities that much bigger than other places. It’s a choice you have made/had made for you. There is nothing inevitable in it.

?

I mean, yeah, obvs. You didn’t say a single thing I don’t already realize.

I have seen people here explain to me that there are special reasons why the US, alone among wealthy countries, has queues for voting. I didn’t doubt you see it as a basic right to have easy access to vote.

Thank you for explaining.

Yes, it’s another manifestation of the crazy here that’s become the norm.

Dear Mr. Trump: Our voting practices alone make the U.S. a “shithole” country. Thanks (not) for making that feature far, far worse.

This is a very selective phenomenon. In my precinct, overwhelmingly white and conservative, I have never had to wait more than a few minutes in line to vote. The news footage of those crazy long, hours in line kinda things show a distinct Brown and Black tint to the voters in question. Wonder how that came to be?
