This doesn’t surprise me. The fear-mongering tactic from the other side has been very successful in the past. It needed to be countered. I’m less concerned about the campaign because that’s the time when pols promise all sorts of things that suddenly don’t happen when they get into office. If fence-sitting conservatives buy it - and vote Biden - I’m not gonna complain.

Obviously. If you don’t already know that I believe that, then you haven’t been paying attention.
In this case, the question of law was specific to the 1A freedom of the press. So that’s what’s relevant to the judges’ ruling. It would have been great for the judges to have ruled, “hey, you shouldn’t be committing violence against anyone!” But that’s not what the case was about.

The number of potential Trump-Biden swing voters is so small as to be effectively nonexistent.
Meanwhile, the Dems are heading for what may be the lowest working class turnout in US history. And they are working very hard to earn that result.

I think it would be more realistic to get unhappy Republicans to vote Libertarian, but that’s a job for the Libertarian party, not the Democratic party.

A person was shot and killed in downtown Portland during a pro-Trump caravan through the city Saturday night. Portland police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
The shooting occurred around 8:45 p.m. near the corner of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Alder Street.
Portland police secured the entire block as the crime scene. Police said they wouldn’t be releasing suspect information “at this time” and no one was immediately arrested following the shooting.
Images of the victim show a man wearing a hat featuring the logo of Patriot Prayer, a group that has regularly engaged in violence at Portland protests, and a “Thin Blue Line” patch on his shorts.
Mayor Ted Wheeler said in a text message that he was “aware of the situation.”
“Gathering information now,” he continued. “Will be transparent with public. Asking for people to remain calm and not add to this tragedy.”
A spokesperson for the mayor said Wheeler plans to address the shooting Sunday.
The shooting happened after tensions gradually escalated throughout Saturday night as the pro-Trump caravan slowly moved through the city. Videos posted online show people in flag-adorned trucks driving through groups of protesters, firing paintball guns at crowds and deploying what appears to be pepper spray.

theyre estimating like a thousand (!) cars in the pro trump ( and pro global warming i guess ) rally. a couple of semi trucks, a lot of desecrated american flags with that blue strip thing, a pre-party with no masks, a man wearing a shirt of trump dressed as superman.
i thought they were against disrupting traffic but sounds like the police shut down some of the roads so they could drive the 45 minutes from their staging area to the downtown.
also seems like the police could have shutdown the entrance to downtown, but instead let them all drive to where the blm demonstrators were. and actually arrested people who tried to stop them.
didn’t find any more details on the person shot, except it sounds like they were a white male, and probably from the right-wing pro-trump crowd.
why the police are letting these two groups interact is beyond me. they seem happy to declare riots and disperse protestors whenever the right wing protestors aren’t around

It should also be noted that most of the MAGAt parade were from out-of-town - many of the usual suspects from the Hate Tourists who clash with antifa; Proud Boys, Oathkeepers, 3%ers. This wasn’t a Portland suburbanite Trump supporter get-together. It was an organized, national, far-right domestic terrorist group rally that was intended to be violent from the start.
ETA: and it’s no surprise that the police enabled it, because that’s what they do.

Because they’re totally fine with fascists beating the shit out of BLM protesters, and will happily frame any violence that occurs as the fault of the BLM group and not the invading fascist forces because it gives them a greater excuse to crack down on the people opposing the status quo.
