Some neighborhood context:
“ Fishtown is known as a working class Irish Catholic neighborhood. Recently, however, the neighborhood has seen a large influx of young urban professionals and gentrification.[2]”
“ Every Friday afternoon at 5:30 pm the doors of “the El”—one of America’s oldest elevated subways—swoosh open at Girard and Berks Street stations, unleashing a stampede of Millennials, yuppies, hipsters, entrepreneurs, and empty nesters onto Front Street.”
It’s not near where the majority of protests or looting have been - Center City & West Philly.

I know about Fishtown from Dispatches from Elsewhere.
That nefarious shit is soooo the opposite of “Divine Nonchalance.”

Oof. Soldiers goose-stepping through America’s cities would definitely sour people’s appetite for the CoD series.

Meanwhile, wild as it might seem, a sitting member of Congress is admonishing people in the replies for not doing his job.
Just absolutely dumbstrikingly impossibly useless.

If you’re thinking “we need to restore peace, then get to work on justice”, you’ve got it exactly backwards.
Restore justice, then you might have a chance of achieving peace.

I’ve seen a couple of interviews with Brother West these past few days. I have never seen him so filled with rage as he is. He’s always been angry, of course, about systemic racism and the state of the world… but he always has that edge of joy and hope about him, even when he’s mad. Not now.

Unless this person has done some deeper investigation than they’ve stated, a WHOIS search only returns that the domain’s registrant is protected through a registrar security service. That doesn’t mean the LMPF didn’t do it in secret and then ditch it when caught, but he’s making a pretty sizable declaration without evidence. There’s plenty more cop-friendly assholes in Louisville besides the cops.

This. Step one belongs to the authorities. If they want to get out of the other side of this, they have to take the first step. It’s not on the protesters to take the first step. Drop the curfews, prosecute the violent cops, start the reform now and they can reasonably expect the protesters to calm. They can’t reasonably expect protesters to stop protesting as police escalate the violence that started this; continue the injustice that started this.
