Looked like a democratic decision to me, lots of people were up for it.
Still not a Romney fan in general but, as with his Senate vote to remove Trump from office, this is one of the times I’m going to give the man his due.
It’s almost as if what’s “politically realistic” isn’t a fixed thing, but is instead determined by whatever people are willing to take to the streets and fight for.
He’s the guy who did the official report on My Lai which subsequent investigations described as a whitewash. Apparently nothing happened and in fact relations between the locals and the imperial army of occupation were excellent.
Fuck that guy. [quote=“SheiffFatman, post:1348, topic:172267”]
Surreally, Piers Morgan

Can’t trust his change of heart, but it doesn’t matter. At least he’s been saying the right side of things this last while. Not quite sure what his angle is. Just hope he’s taken some people with him.
And as for Home Secretaries: I’ve said it here before, you pick your most miserable, consciounce free bastard for that job. They’re going to be doing horrible things to people like getting protestors assaulted, blacklisting activists so they will never work again, imprisoning peiple without trial, or breaking up families and deporting people. By definition anyone willing to do that job to clamber up the greasy pole is a shit.
Edit
I see @Wanderfound pointed out the Powell cover up before me.
BTW:
It’s not an organization without very real problems (racism and misogyny prime among them), but there is a strong sense of communalism and anti-state oppression among members of the LDS church - the communion is everything and from their history, they’re aware that they can’t really trust the government to look after their interest (which probably informs their overwhelming support for the Republicans, as they have historical had planks on their platform about smaller government). Their origins (the polygamy aside) were rooted in communal support and they were often violently chased out of places where they settled until they got to Utah. Sometimes that historical sense of community activism manages to show itself.
But yeah, good for Mittens!
I still think of him as more of a political adversary than a political ally, but he’s the kind of adversary I wish my other political adversaries would aspire to be like.
Imagine how different things could be in our country right now if Romney represented the political center of the Republican Party instead of its most progressive fringe.
Also noteworthy is that, so far at least, the nazi involvement has been to attack the BLM protesters, not the police. He didn’t chuck his fireworks at the cops, he planted them among the protesters.
The cops don’t need outside encouragement to go on the rampage. They’re happy to do that all on their own.
1 million Loves for this Good Boy.
Tom Cotton once again threatening people with a good time.
BTW, regarding the current trends of assorted establishment Democrats and non-Trump Republicans attempting to belatedly join and co-opt the protests, listen to the second half of the Malcolm X speech I linked upthread. The bit from 11:20 until the end.
This is an old tactic; these people are not on the side of justice.
Anyone want to lay odds on whether Trump makes it through the whole speech without dropping any ethnic slurs?
Holy fucksocks, I hope they scrap the idea.
Hey, maybe he’s finally ready to apologize for calling for the execution of the Central Park Five!
But honestly yeah this is going to be a fucking disaster.
The traditionalists in the LDS is also losing to the more progressive presence in the church as well, based on the mormons still in the church that I know. There has always been a vocal component to the organization that supported progressive causes within the church, but their leaders now have a larger say in the head organization now too.
This is all second and third hand stuff though.
