2020 Uprising: Enough is Enough

Edit:

Hmmm, “disband” versus “defund”…

Heather Cox Richardson writes:

protesters have begun to call for Americans to “defund the police,” a phrasing that already has Republican opponents talking about keeping constituents safe. What most reformers mean by that phrase reflects that, as we have defunded education, housing, mental health facilities, and so on, our towns and cities increasingly have turned the functions of those institutions over to police. Reformers want to shrink police responsibilities and decrease funding from police budgets, investing instead in the other community resources that have lost money as police departments have gained it. Most are not calling for abolishing police departments altogether. They are using “defund” in the same way Republicans have called for defunding social programs.

It’s also worth noting the difference that progressive protesters almost 100% wear masks and are outside, vs. the neoNazis with no masks and clambering indoors to spray-shout at people. Honestly, more law enforcement officers were endangered by the latter than the former.

But the large group of heavily armed individuals, yeah, that was us.

I swear Biden only opens his mouth to change feet.

King County Superior Court judge Monday set his bail at $150,000 — half of what prosecutors asked — based on his ties to the community and inability to pay,

Lowering bail because the accused is too poor to pay is never really been something that I have heard of before.

I thought bail bond existed for that reason.

Yes. To keep poor people in jail. :woman_shrugging:

Reminds me of the concrete filled buckets the police found when forcibly clearing protesters from a national forest that was to be strip mined for coal in Germany. According to their account these would be hoisted into the trees and then drop on police when a tripwire was triggered. Yeah, you know, that …or it’s a tried and true method to weigh down lines securing treehouses. Like the ones the protesters lived in.

I’m gonna share this in the portland thread, if you don’t mind…

Just keep in mind, this is Portland, ME, not Portland, OR.

I think the point still stands, tho!

Yup. Just be prepared for some (annoying-noise making) one to wank about it.

Something I was wondering. Assuming you ignore the official designations and look at what they are, is the KKK the longest-running terrorist organization in history? Because I’m not aware of any others that are really comparable.

(And just to be clear, it’s not an accomplishment, it’s a disgrace.)

So many questions here. He portrays it as if he was leisurely driving around the area when multiple cameras show him barreling toward the crowd. Why did he have a gun sitting on his passenger seat - which is illegal, why did he have two extra magazines?

Sounds like someone wants to stay in office more than being in the good graces of the GOP in the senate

Because he’s a fascist who was planning a mass murder, but chickened out as soon as a brave hero punched him in the face.

But I suspect you already knew that.
