Betcha the BLM mural goes right back over the blue line within a few days.

I’d like to think that people, when faced with the task of obliterating the phrase “Black Lives Matter” might take a step back and wonder about the side they’ve ended up on.

But I’d like to think a lot of things.

I mean, ideally you’d want to live in a universe where the phrase “Black Lives Matter” wasn’t automatically assumed to be an anti-police sentiment in the first place.

Sooner than that, even, it seems:

Maybe Felicia finally gets to retire?

Sadly, no.

But now we have a new alternative to “Karen.”

Especially given how the fabulous man speaking enunciated it so that it practically dripped with disdain…

It might just be a conspiracy theory, but prior to MOVE, if you said the government would bomb a whole neighborhood, you’d be considered a conspiracy theorist, too. Or deliberately infecting Black men with syphilis, or…

Thing is, I have seen a lot of confused Black people in my timeline about these fireworks. Anyone saying it’s a normal Juneteenth thing is making a connection to a holiday they just heard of and assuming the holiday must be the reason.

And I know the US loves its fireworks and they’re more easily/readily available than in other countries with stricter laws around them. But the timing here does not seem right.

Lots of fireworks in my neighborhood, too.

Though there always are, throughout the whole month of July… but right now, it’s still June.

Yeah, that’s what I hear a lot of people saying. July? Sure, especially anywhere around the 4th. Crap, even here for a couple of weeks after Halloween, someone’s letting off little firecrackers. Chinese Lunar New Year? Again, sure, but little ones. Sporadically, not “could set your clock by them” timing.

These are apparently big booms starting well before dark and not ending until near dawn, like a schedule. And just not quite right in time for a major holiday.

Again, could just be a theory, but again, lot of other “ludicrous” things have been done to Black and Brown people that would have sounded just as “conspiracy theory” when the alarms were sounded about them at the time (“Do you seriously expect me to believe that the entire reason for the War on Drugs was to feed Black people into the Prison Industrial Slavery Complex under the 13th Amendment?” Um, yes, reader, yes, I do. Nixon admitted it.)

When the unrest had just begun during that first week, I heard a series of loud booms that sounded like mortars to my untrained ears.

The sporadic fireworks here haven’t all been like that, nor have they been consistently going off at the same time, for hours at a time.

That IS concerning…

Surely those cops can’t actually be genocidal Boogaloo cultists!

and yet there is no other explanation for their behavior

Funny she’s so bothered with having to sit in a drive through for 10 minutes. That’s where Rayshaud Brooks’ tormented soul will wander for eternity.

So…did you even notice the police weren’t around?

I’ve been somewhat skeptical about the alleged fireworks uptick as being anything other than homegrown - around where I’m at, celebratory ordnance season typically spans the year stretching from Cinco de Mayo to Labor Day, and depending on the year the caliber ranges from merely terrifying to seemingly NATO grade munitions. Things being as they are these days though, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some accelerationists angling to increase the anxiety in fact. In other sonic warfare news this just popped up - and it’s been being blasted sporadically in my neighborhood all week.
