It’s desperate sabre-rattling, and should be given as much credence as all the previous Russian “red lines”. That is, none at all.
If Putin had any real confidence in the Russian military, or genuinely thought the war in Ukraine is going according to the plan, he wouldn’t be doing this. This is a sign of weakness and desperation.
I know Zelenskyy is in a desperate position and is just trying to secure a future for his own country regardless of who wins the US Presidential election but it’s sickening to see Trump using him as a campaign tool like this.
Trump was just standing alongside him talking to the press at Trump Tower and the only comments Trump had were related to the current race and how Zelenskyy never said Trump did anything wrong during “the impeachment hoax” (hardly surprising since Zelenskyy wouldn’t have wanted to jeopardize aid by involving himself in partisan US politics).
It’s almost as if Trump doesn’t care about the war at all and thinks of all other human beings only in terms of what they can offer him.
I suspect they more remember how the cloud from Chernobyl went west, not east due to the prevailing winds of that week. Russia itself got off relatively light, it was Belarus, Poland, Germany and Scandinavia that bore the brunt IIRC.
Remember, the actual path of the cloud isn’t important, it’s the remembered path that drives Putin. He thinks especially Germany will be cowed by the threat of radioactive fallout again.
“I also have a very good relationship as you know with President Putin and I think if we* win [the election] we’re going to get it resolved very quickly”
