I probably hit my limit on quoting A History of the World in 10 and 1/2 Chapters some time ago, but this bit from the chapter set on Noah’s ark came to mind:
But the reindeer sensed something. And it was something beyond what we then knew. As if they were saying, You think this is the worst? Don’t count on it. Still, whatever it was, even the reindeer couldn’t be specific about it. Something distant, major … long-term.
