I’d never seen that game. I had no idea the Z80 could handle that many simultaneous levels of homoerotica

That’s an impressive feat, I wonder what could be done with other classics.

I love the ambition of not only having shield and weapon targeting, but also the isolation of damage and armor breakage to different parts of the body. It’s all so perfectly, garishly ugly in such an overstuffed way that feels WWF-inspired. The aesthetic also exposes the sacrifice of smoothness in favor of technical detail in the way the body parts are slightly disjointed and the posture tortured to accommodate the independence of the federation of body sprites.

One of the fat folders of notes in my filing-cabinet-o-undeveloped-projects is just called “Video Games: Sword and Shield” and is all around the idea of a game with both sword and shield targeting. the earliest notes are from the early 90s and the controls are mapped to the number pad (cardinals + diagonals) with formats traveling through mouse control, and now touch. I still add notes and sketches fairly regularly, and fully intent to make it, whenever that golden time of my life arrives when… my insistance of handrolling all our websites finally irritates my colleagues to the point that they replace me with Squarespace…

Bennett Foddy’s Homoerotic Gladiators, right? It almost seems historically mandatory.

a porn simulator with qwop controls might actually be a pretty visceral approximation of adolescent sexual experimentation…

He says Apple II, which as he also mentions is 6502. The Z80 was a diff CPU using in Spectrum amongst others.

Just saying.

The arcade version shown used a Z80 (with more impressive support chips than found in the Spectrum). I googled it before replying, not that that was really the thrust of my post

If I remember my Hitchhiker’s Guide correctly, this is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. Which means, of course, that the question of life, the universe, and everything is “what is six times seven?”

What do you get when you multiply six by nine

I always thought there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe…
