Nobody seems to have seen this but they ought to.
I thought my language skills were amazing as I watched it in a cinema in Lyon - before realising the subtitles were in French but the dialogue was in English

OH! I have not seen this! I’ll look into it!
Sign me up!
“Excuse me, you’ve offended the Movie Police. Would you come with us please?” - and they were never seen again.
Somehow, this movie embedded itself in my subconscious in (maybe) 1977 and I can still sing all the jingles. Most of the other midnight movies I saw in the 70s are only hazy memories, with the exception of Rocky Horror Picture Show, because how can you forget an experience that begins when you’re handed a bag of rice by weirdly costumed people at the entrance and told “don’t worry, you’ll understand” ?
Cult because Tim Roth is in it. (It’s a family favorite here- we have the DVD!)

I think the title here, 50 Great Cult Films, is true, whereas the article’s title The 50 Best Cult Films can’t possibly be true. “Best” lists are always subjective.
What about Canadian Bacon?
A great silly movie! Especially for us Canada-adjacent folks!
But is it a cult film?
OH! Another that struck me as needing to be on a list like this… what about Blazing Saddles?
Anyone mention these yet?
Reanimator
Death Race 2000/Deathsport
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (was that it)
Beastmaster
Bad Taste
The Silent Star?
Sounds like time for a couple of Eastern Bloc cult movie recommendations:
I’m not sure. Are cult movies allowed to have Alan Alda?
@IronEdithKidd Hehe. There are plenty of cult movies that have high profile actors. Sometimes that’s because the movie flopped commercially (Ishtar), and sometimes because they just went quietly when they were released.
One of my favorite movies that I saw last year was Ben Wheatly’s High Rise, with Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons and more. It’s based on a J. G. Ballard novel, so it was always going to be a cult movie…
I don’t know if it counts as a cult film. Wheatly makes strange films, to be sure, but more high profile art house films? Now Crash by Cronenberg… that’s a cult film based on a JG Ballard novel.
@anon61221983 Yes, Silent Star! Also, if you liked The Thief, etc, check out another Peter Greenaway film, A Zed and Two Noughts. It’s a weird one.
Dead Man’s Shoes might count.
Paddy Considine is intense and as it progresses things get weirder…
Good movie, yes. Entirely not a movie to curl up with on date night.
Withnail and I?
Another I’ve not seen… Also what about the subgenre of skinhead films…
The Believer
Romper Stompers
This is England
Not American history X, though. Too mainstream.
Some of the movies I’ve thrown out in this thread are hard to source, but some of them are readily available for free!
HUGE Fan of Kanopy.com. Great collection, watch 10 per month, free with most Library cards. Which are mostly available for signup online due to pandemic.
I have no wish to watch that again.
It was great, but sheesh…
Haha. That reminds me of one of my first dates with my partner, wherein we went to see Sexy Beast.
Great movie, but a bold choice for a first date.
You just have to turn it Yes…
Right? Although I’ll take that over American History X anyday… it’s also great, but also I can’t watch it…
