This post takes me back. I went to one of his book readings when he was touring to promote Areas of my Expertise circa 2006 and he was kind enough to gift me a signed box of official Hobo Chalk when I told him I’d just landed my first underpaid teaching gig. He advised me to sell it immediately before his fame faded and it became worthless but I was never able to bring myself to. Still have the chalk and that copy of his book kicking around somewhere.
