8 writers share their ideas for Star Trek spinoffs

Except for the reference to Greece, that has nothing to do with my idea. No, by Greek Chorus I meant some crisis could be brewing, say a medical epidemic, and the First Contact team provide exposition about the “primitive attitudes”, about how this could have been prevented if enough were vaccinated, or an economic crisis mentioned with “oh yes, they still believe in capitalism”, things like that. The whole “we evolved beyond that” which was a hallmark of TOS Trek. By “Greek Chorus” I meant someone other than the protagonists addressing the plot.

Well, that story I just Googled about Niven selling a Known Space story to ST is bizarre. Naturally, there’s debate whether that early 70’s animated series is canon or not. Either way, I’m astonished at the KS/ST crossover.

I must say, I really like the idea of making a series about the accounting department.

The canonicity of TAS is sort of weird; everything except for I think Yesteryear is considered non-canonical except for times when writers bring TAS elements into the shoe (iirc DS9 did it a couple of times.)

BTW, Sarek’s speech to young Spock about his dual nature as human and Vulcan in the 2009 movie comes from Yesteryear. That brings up an interesting mental wankery about the Kelvinverse, though: since the timeline has been altered so radically, does Spock’s existence in the new timeline mean that there will, at some point, come a time where the events of Yesteryear still have to happen?
